The DreamStation Extreme is based on Intel's latest 'Broadwell-E' platform just released by Intel in June of 2016. The powerful system is based on the updated X99 chipset with support for latest Intel 7th generation 6XXX Core i7 Extreme CPU's.
These new processors from Intel make it easier to create with performance never before available in a desktop.
In the CPU section, you can choose your Intel Core i7 Broadwell-E processor. Broadwell-E is the latest generation of the Intel Core i7 Extreme processors just released in June of 2016. Native DDR4 speeds have been increased and the smaller manufacturing process (14nm) allowed for higher clock speeds.
Each of these CPUs offer different performance levels and cache sizes. The main difference between the 6800K and the 6850K/6900K/6950X/XEON is the number of PCI-e slots supported. Each PCI-e lane translates into the number of PCi-e 3.0 slots that run at their full speed. If you plan on a RAID card, 4K Black Magic card, etc. then you should choose a CPU with 40 PCI-e lanes (6850K and above).
You can make your System RAM selections below:
For the DreamStation-Extreme, we offer a 16GB, 32GB, 64GB, and a 128GB option using the latest DDR4 standard. DDR4 offers much higher bandwidth at a lower voltage.
The amount of RAM can impact your workflow. If you mainly work in SD/HD up to 1080P without a lot of filters or effects, then 16GB is fine. 32GB is the sweet spot for 1080P sequences and helps with 4K. If you use Premiere or After Effects for multi-layer projects in 4K and above, then select the 64GB or 128GB option.
We offer 3 different cases for our DreamStation system.
All of our PRO cases offer front removable hard drives. In addition to the convenience, the backplane offers superior power and cabling stability.
Our first case has (4) Front accessible removable SATA bays, a 900W Platinum Rated High Efficiency power supply, and 2 additional bays for CD/DVD/Blu-ray optical drives or an additional hard drive.
Our second case has many high end features such as (8) Front accessible removable SATA bays, and a 1200W Platinum Level High Efficiency power supply.
Choose the 8 bay case with a rack option if you'd like to rack mount the case.
Each of our cases are rated at less than 20db of ambient noise. This provides a workstation with incredible power that can barely be heard when it's running.
A short note about our power supplies:
Our power supplies are all Platinum LEVEL 94% Efficient. That means that they output 94% of the power they take in. For example, even our Single Core i7 6950X with every slot filled, 6 hard drives, and the CPUs at 100%, the system never gets above 450 watts, leaving plenty of headroom. This means that a powerful system like this will not output a bunch of wasted wattage in the form of heat. Our Dual XEON system never gets above 700 Watts even with dual GPU cards, and every slot filled.
The Render-Spare Drive is not required
for your AVID System, but it's a good idea to have.
Having a secondary SSD or hard drive in addition to your Media RAID can be important. This drive can be used as
your EXPORT DRIVE for your exports to MPEG-2, Blu-ray,
H.264/265, QuickTime, or anything you are exporting.
Using a separate storage for exports will decrease
your render times because the system will perform better reading from one drive and writing to another. In addition, it allows you to make backup copies of your important clips and projects. If you selected a 4TB Media RAID then a 4TB Storage drive makes sense.
are a serious power user for Premiere Pro, After Effects, or Photoshop then
you should consider adding an SSD drive for your Media cache, scratch
disks, and After Effects cache. The SSD drive will considerably speed up those applications, when working with complex projects but you may need
to pay more attention to the size of those files and periodically delete
We include a Blu-ray recorder that supports BD-RE at 16x, DVD's at 24X and CD's at 48X.
Alternatively, you can choose a standard DVD Recorder that also burns CD's. The Blu-ray burner will handle both 25GB and 50GB disks. Cyberlink Power 2 go software (OEM version) is included with each drive.
This is where you will choose a seconday DVD recorder. You may either choose another Dual Layer recorder, or a Blu-ray recorder from LG. The Blu-ray burner will handle both 25GB and 50GB disks
and burns the BD-R at 10X. Please note that you must have a DVI/HDMI HDCP compatible display to play commercial Blu-ray disks. All of our monitors offer this capability.
In this section, you can choose your Internal Media RAID drive array. Please note that configurations that have 8 drives require the 8 bay case.
The Media RAID (volume) is where you will store your video, audio, stills, and other media for online editing. Although the Media RAID shows up as one drive letter, it is actually made up of two or more spinning hard drives or Solid State Drives.
We offer 2 types of RAID configurations. We use a multi drive RAID configuration for your media storage because one single hard drive is not fast enough to edit the formats used today in most cases. We use a proprietary 'caching' algorithm combined with our RAID configurations to enhance the multi stream performance. The end result is that you don't have to wait for your storage system to catch up to your creativity.
Media RAID-0: for Performance
In a RAID-0, we use 2 (or more) hard drives and combine them together so they appear as one drive letter (volume) in Windows. This is required for SD/HD/4K editing because a single hard drive is not fast enough. If you take the steps to make sure your important video and audio assets are backed up, then the standard (2) drive RAID-0 is adequate. Hard drives are mechanical, and they can fail. Our systems have numerous external ports for easy connection to USB 3.0, optional Thunderbolt drive arrays. There are many options to keep your media online and available.
Media RAID-10: for Performance and Content Protection
In a RAID-10, we essentially ‘mirror’ a RAID-0. This is all done in the background with no intervention from you. The UPSIDE to this solution is fast speed with ‘data redundancy’. If a hard drive fails in the RAID, all of your projects and media are safe. With our RAID-10 configuration, if a drive goes down, the system continues to operate without a hiccup, and there is no need to rebuild a RAID-10 array to access your projects and media stored on it. Once you replace the failed drive, the array will be protected again. The DOWNSIDE to this solution is that it is more expensive, and doubles the number of hard drives required to implement it.
In this section, you can choose an I/O device for your AVID workstation.
Keep in mind that all of our Graphics/GPU cards include the ability to have at least 3 monitors and most support 4 monitors. You can configure AVID Media Composer to use one or more monitors as a real-time preview display.
For I/O hardware from Black Magic Design and the AVID DNxIO. These powerful cards and external boxes allow for real time monitoring and capture capabilities. The Black Magic products offer impressive connectivity at a very affordable price and the AVID DNxIO provides additional features for Media Composer users.
For an internal solution, the Black Magic Design Intensity and Decklink products come with a cable bundle for audio and analog inputs and outputs. The Ultra Studio 4K, UltraStudio 4K Extreme, and the AVID DNxIO are all external rack mountable solutions.
The AVID DNxIO has real time DNxHR hardware based encoding. The DNxIO also offers an 'audio' punch in feature directly in Media Composer.
Your system is certified for use with the on-board Crystal Sound audio. Internal sound cards have come a long way in the last few years.
The Crystal Sound audio chip supports 192KHZ, 24 bit audio, 109 db SNR, and and features a true SPDIF output.
For an even better sound card, you can choose the ASUS Essence STX II. The card has a very good Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) of 118 db. You will also get 1/4 and RCA jacks for easy connection to a mixer or microphone as well as a built in headphone amp.
If you have selected a Black Magic Design solution, then you can use the audio inputs and outputs in your projects on both AVID and Adobe software suites for a professional audio connection.
The standard configuration comes with (2) wired GigabitLAN ports. Select a wireless option if you would like Wi-Fi with the standard configuration.
Select the 1394 FireWire port for DV/HDV capture if need a 1394a FireWire port on your system.
Select the Thunderbolt add in card to add (2) Thunderbolt V2 ports for use with Thunderbolt devices including Apple monitors.
For interface and preview display monitors, we are pleased to offer Samsung and LG monitors.
Besides amazing accurate color quality and accuracy, each monitor we offer comes standard with TILT, PIVOT, and HEIGHT adjustments.
Choose the Samsung 32" monitor. This Samsung monitor offers amazing 30 bit color (over a billion), and 30 BIT resolutions up to 2560 X 1600.
4K or UHD monitors are starting to become widely available. However, most of the models priced at less than $600 have very poor refresh rates making them unsuitable for video editing. You may choose a 4K monitor for use as an interface display (or two), or use it as a preview display. After looking at the models available, we believe the LG model we offer gives you the best color (nearly 100% Adobe sRGB) and at 4096 x 2160 (17:9). This monitor operates at the exact resolution of Digital Cinema 4K.
